Leading up to Black Friday, Houston was ranked the number one city in the nation for department store revenue, as reported by the Houston Chronicle and the Houston Business Journal. The rankings were based on data provided by SizeUp. Trailing Houston were New York, Los Angeles, San Antonio, Chicago, and Dallas. According to the Chronicle, “With all of the malls in the Houston area, it’s not hard to see why we lead the list, with New York and Los Angeles coming in second and third to the Bayou City… Houston’s boisterous economy also lends itself to spending, and also because you cannot leave Target without spending $100 more than you planned to when you walked in the door.”
